Rockingham, VA
Nelson Lee “Froggy” Ryman, Sr., 86, of Rockingham, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 8, 2026. Born on February 12, 1940, in Shenandoah County, he was the son of the late Roy E. Ryman and Gladys Phillips Ryman.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Ann Donovan Ryman; a son, Nelson Ryman, Jr. of Harrisonburg; and a brother, Richard Ryman of Dayton. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren—Nelson Ryman III (Melissa), Rebecca Becerra (Wally), Eli Ryman, Billy Bird (Barbara), Alex Bird, Callie McMillan (Jerod), and Brooke McIntyre (Trey)—and three great-grandchildren, Valentino, Jacqueline, and Michael. Numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends will also remember him fondly.
Nelson worked for 33 years at National Linen Service. A man of deep faith, he most recently attended Melrose Brethren Church, where he found great joy. He cherished time spent in nature, especially fishing and boating at Buggs Island, and was affectionately known as “Mr. Fix It” for his remarkable ability to repair nearly anything.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Ryman. At his request, his body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at Melrose Church of the Brethren with Pastor Guy Hudson officiating.
