Nellie Wofford Braxton

January 8, 1929 March 13, 2026

Morehead City, NC

Nellie Wofford Braxton, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on March 13, 2026.

Born on January 8, 1929, in Davie County, North Carolina, to Charles and Maude Bivins Wofford, Nell grew up surrounded by cousins and extended family. She cherished her high school years, particularly playing on and traveling with her basketball team. After graduation, she moved to Washington, DC, where she worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and formed lifelong friendships that she maintained for decades, regularly attending FBI reunions along the eastern seaboard.

Nell had a deep love for travel, especially to historical sites, and remained an avid reader who kept herself well-informed on current events, politics, and the weather. She found great joy in shopping for food, which she generously shared with others. Known for her remarkable kindness and willingness to help, she was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Morehead City, where she actively participated in its many offerings.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Braxton; her daughter, Nelda Creech; her sisters, Gail Castelloe, Peggy Hellard, and Betty Sue Wofford; her brother, Charles Wofford; and her parents. Nell is survived by her grandson, Trey Creech (Tori); granddaughters, Kristy Creech Wells (Todd) and Stacy Creech Gandini (Michael); and great-grandchildren, Madeline and Thomas Creech, Sara, Emma, and Alec Gandini, and Gavin Wells.
