Nellie L. Weiss

Nellie L. Weiss, 101, of Punxsutawney, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Mulberry Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Born on November 26, 1924, in Indiana, Pennsylvania, to the late Arnold and Bertha (George) Fonner, she graduated from Punxsutawney Area High School in 1941 and was the last surviving member of her class. In 1942, she married the love of her life, Harold “Jack” Weiss, who preceded her in death.

Nellie worked as a grocery clerk, where her warm and outgoing nature made her a favorite among customers. A longtime member of the Punxsutawney Presbyterian Church, she found great joy in volunteering and connecting with others. Above all, she cherished her family and the time spent with those she loved.

She is survived by her two children, Sara Weiss and Peggy (Daniel) Engle; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Nellie was preceded in death by two sons, Arnold Lee Weiss and Harold James Weiss, and four siblings, Caroline Lukehart, Marion Welch, Laura Jean Jarbeck, and Arnold Eddie Fonner.
