Nell Jean Baxter

Nell Jean Baxter, 78 of Syracuse, NY, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. She was born in McCalla, Alabama on February 18, 1948 to the late Jesse and Hettie (Melton) Rutledge.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Baxter; sons, Jermaine and Terrence Davis; stepson, Anthony Baxter, stepdaughters, Cathy Gelzer, Sarah Gelzer; three sisters, Christine Rutledge, Mary Ester and Asia Rutledge; brothers, John (Yvonne) Rutledge, Joseph (Kelly) Rutledge and Curtis Hood; grandchildren, Desiree’ (Darin) Murphy, Jalen Davis and Andrea Bradshaw.

Predeceased by her brother, Otis Rutledge.

Calling hours will be held at The New Testament Church, 1121 S. Salina St., Syracuse, NY 13202 on Friday, March 20, 2026 from 10am-12pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12pm. Burial will be at White Chapel Cemetery, DeWitt, NY.
