Manhattan, IL

Neil Robert Weir, 52, of Manhattan, Illinois, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, following a courageous two-year battle with Gastroesophageal Junction Adenocarcinoma.

Born on March 27, 1973, in DeKalb, Illinois, Neil grew up in Sycamore, where he graduated from Sycamore High School in 1991. An Eagle Scout, he went on to graduate with honors from Northern Illinois University in 1995 with a B.S. in Business and Corporate Communications and later earned an MBA from Ashford University.

In 2003, Neil married the love of his life, Lisa Bauer, in Sycamore, Illinois. The couple settled in Manhattan, where they raised their daughters, Kaitlyn Beatrice and Megan Lynn. Being a father to his girls was the role he cherished above all else. He was endlessly proud of them and loved them more than anything in the world. His family was the reason he fought so hard during his illness.

Neil dedicated his career to T-Mobile beginning in 2002, most recently serving as a Retail Development Manager. Known for his strong leadership, dedication, and genuine care for his team, he built lasting friendships with colleagues who became like family. He took great pride in mentoring others and helping teams succeed, leaving a meaningful impact on everyone he worked with.

A member of the United Methodist Church of New Lenox, Neil was a lifelong Chicago Bears and Cubs fan and found joy in fishing, sitting by the campfire, and playing music. He taught himself guitar and loved practicing classic rock songs. His sense of humor, quick wit, and ability to make everyone feel welcome will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Neil is survived by his loving wife, Lisa; daughters Kaitlyn and Megan; parents Bob and Karla (Hetland) Weir; sister Rachel (Jeremy) Bell and nephews Riley and Atticus Bell; nieces Maggie and Kelly; goddaughter Abby Aiello; and nephews Miles and Monty Murray. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Sigurd and Beatrice (Wesson) Hetland and uncles Paul Weir and Tom Weir.
