Nathan Holloway ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Whitaker Funeral Home - Metter on Mar. 11, 2026.God made March 12,1932, a very special day when he blessed Charlie and Janie Holloway with their fourth of five sons whom they named Nathan Holloway. Three brothers preceded him to the other side of the wall, Deroy McNeal, James Bernice Holloway and Robert Louis Holloway.Nathan attended the Candler County School System. He furthered his education by attending Burlington County College. In 1952 Nathan joined the United States Army. During his Army career Nathan's left chest gained weight and became heavy! He fought in the Korean War and Vietnam War. Nathan climbed the ranks of the US Army retiring as a First Sergeant in 1973. Throughout his career Nathan earned countless awards, National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Combat Infantry Badge 2nd Award, Vietnam Service Medal, Purple Heart, Senior Parachute Badge, ARCOM with 3/D Oak Leaf Cluster AOM (Germany) with countless other Letters of Commendation and Awards. After returning from his tour of duty in Berlin, Germany, he met his loving wife Betrotha Bacon Holloway who proceeded him in death along with his two daughters, Alvenia Powell Oliver and Diann Byrd Williamson. After retiring from the US Army, Nathan set off to begin a new career with the US Postal Service where he worked his way up to Mail Carrier Supervisor. He enjoyed delivering mail and meeting the residents on his route. Nathan never met a stranger, so delivering mail didn't feel like work to him. After twenty years of service Nathan retired again.Nathan's personality would not allow him to just sit around and do nothing.
