Nanette Michelmore

Nanette Michelmore, née West, passed away at the age of 96 on February 26, 2026. Born in Adelaide, Australia on December 14, 1929, she met the love of her life, Peter Michelmore, there. Peter’s work as a journalist led them on a rich journey from Australia to London, New York, back to Australia, and finally to New Jersey in 1966, where they raised their family. For the past thirty years they made their true home in Palisades, New York. Peter predeceased Nanette in 2010.

Nan found deep joy in her family, friends, art, and animals, especially her beloved dog Lucy, with whom she enjoyed walks in Tallman Mountain Park. She maintained lifelong friendships that spanned the globe and decades, while also embracing new friendships that brought fresh experiences. An accomplished watercolorist, she studied most recently at the Barn in Ridgewood and in a studio with her good friend Arthur. Art kept her grounded, allowing her to express joy and remain fully present in the moment.

At the age of 89 she became a U.S. citizen so she could fully participate in the democratic process, proudly casting her vote in the 2020 election. A friend to all, she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

Nanette is survived by her sons Nicholas and Jayson, her daughter Tracy, her brother-in-law Bill, her granddaughters Samantha, Gavyn, and Shannon, her grandson Taylor, and four great-grandchildren.
