In 1948, following WWII, she moved to Hong Kong to live with her paternal grandmother before immigrating to Providence, Rhode Island, in 1952. There, she completed her high school education and worked as a cashier at her father's restaurant, Mee Hong, one of the first Chinese restaurants in Rhode Island. In 1954, she married Richard Louie-her husband of almost 70 years-with whom she raised two children, Patty and Dickson, first in Cleveland, Ohio, then in San Leandro, California, in 1971. They worked as small business owners, first owning a laundry business in Ohio and then a dry cleaning business in California.Nancy and Richard worked hard to provide for their children and extended family members. Both were curious about how the world around them worked, imparting the importance of education and hard work to their children, encouraging them to pursue professional careers in both biotech and the media industries. Nancy and Richard took road trips with their children to Washington, D.C., New York City, Boston, Montreal, Toronto, Las Vegas, and Disneyland. Both also attended the 1964 New York World's Fair and the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Nancy loved her family deeply and was always happy to care for them, whether it was cooking a meal or sharing her thoughts.Nancy and Richard retired from the dry cleaning business in 1992 and spent their later years enjoying trips to Disney World, Alaska, and China with their family and friends. They also enjoyed spending time with their granddaughter, Sara, the daughter of Patty and son-in-law, Bill Ho. In her spare time, Nancy enjoyed cooking, gardening, and sewing. On March 8, 2026, Nancy passed away peacefully in San Leandro, California.
