Nancy Lou Gill, age 93, of Freeport, passed away on March 10, 2026, at Winn Prairie. Born on July 15, 1932, in Freeport to Henry and Ruth (Lindeman) Zanoni, she graduated from Freeport High School in 1950 and began her career as a dental assistant for Dr. Foy Matter. On December 26, 1953, she married Frederic B. (Fritz) Gill at St. Joseph’s Parish in Freeport.
In the late 1960s, Nancy returned to school and earned an Associate Nursing Degree from Rock Valley College. She went on to work as a Registered Nurse at St. Clare Hospital in Monroe, Wisconsin. A longtime member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Freeport, she also belonged to the Freeport Garden Club, Germania, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Nancy lovingly passed her lifelong passions for gardening and cooking to her three sons, James Gill of Greendale, Wisconsin, Michael (Sharon) Gill of St. Charles, Illinois, and Thomas Gill of Savage, Minnesota. She is also survived by her grandchildren Zachary (Gina) Gill, Marissa (Nic) Dronen, and Elise (Dan) Morawski, and her great-grandchildren Liam and Scarlett Gill, and Eloise, Maggie, and Olivia Dronen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother and sister-in-law James and Jean Zanoni Sr., her infant nephew James Zanoni Jr., her in-laws Brook and Robert Gill, and many other relatives and friends.
