Nancy L. Gaetz

Nancy L. Gaetz, 84, of Ashley, Indiana, died on March 11, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on July 27, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, to Basil and Helen (Stitsworth) Grate, who preceded her in death. On February 6, 1960, she married William “Bill” Gaetz at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Waterloo.

Nancy served as bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Ashley U-Stor-It. A longtime member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church and the Rosary Sodality, she found deep joy in stories, first through books and later through audiobooks when her eyesight faded. She cherished time with her family, found peace in nature, and delighted in bird watching. She loved camping in Manistee, Michigan, spending winters at their home in Florida, and competing in lively games of trivia. Above all, she was a devoted prayer warrior whose steady faith and constant prayers touched everyone around her.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, William “Bill” Gaetz of Ashley; six children, Nick Gaetz of Wolcottville, Martin Gaetz of Ashley, Chris (Jackie) Gaetz of Angola, Doug (Katie) Gaetz of Hamilton, Greg Gaetz of Pleasant Lake, and Cheryl (Barney) Gramling of Ashley; nine grandchildren, Nicci, Jessica, Joe, Derek, Isaac, Zack, Ashley, Mike, and Ricky; and 20 great-grandchildren.
