August 3, 1954— March 13, 2026
Union, SC
Nancy Flynn Hope, 71, of Union, South Carolina, passed away on March 13, 2026 at her home after a courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia. She was surrounded by loved ones.
Born on August 3, 1954 in Union, she was a graduate of Union High School and the University of South Carolina, where she was a member of the first women’s golf team. Nancy devoted herself fully to her family, finding her greatest purpose as a homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. Her home was a place of constant love and laughter, and she had a gift for conversation, always eager to celebrate the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Even through her husband’s illness and her own, she faced each day with quiet confidence, grace, and a smile, often keeping hospital staff entertained during her treatments.
She found joy in researching family history, tending her garden, and spending time outdoors. An avid follower of sports and politics, she kept the television on to stay informed. Above all, she cherished her five grandchildren. In the final weeks of her illness, she remained determined to celebrate her eldest grandchild’s birthday on March 7, and she did so before peacefully letting go.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Meek Hope, Sr., parents Phil and Carrie “Smitty” Flynn, and sister Cathy. Nancy is survived by her children Nancy Hope Goodbar (Neal) of Clinton, Robert Hope Jr. (Rebecca) of Union, and David Hope of Union; grandchildren Katie Hope Goodbar, Henry Goodbar, Elizabeth Goodbar, Maddox Hope, and Isaac Hope; brother Philip Flynn III (Karen) of Lexington; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Harold and Jane Hope of Charlotte; brother-in-law Charlie Jordan of Florence; and many nieces and nephews.
