Nashville, NC
Nancy Bunn Bunting of Nashville, North Carolina, passed away at the age of 90. Born at home in the Griffins township of Nash County, she was the daughter of Bunn Arrington Bunting and Daisy Freeman Bunting and the sister of Arthur Freeman Bunting and his wife Vivian Langley Bunting. A lifelong member of Philadelphia Baptist Church, Nancy graduated from Nashville High School with the Class of 1953 and went on to earn her degree from Meredith College in 1957.
Shortly after graduation, she was hired as the first employee of Dr. Fails at what would become the nationwide firm of FMI, located off Hillsboro Street in Raleigh across from NC State. She pursued her CPA license under the firm’s mentorship and achieved that goal in 1971. That same year she founded her own practice, Nancy Bunn Bunting CPA, while continuing her work with FMI. Though she never married or had children of her own, Nancy formed deep and lasting friendships with coworkers, clients, and acquaintances throughout her 65-year career in the Raleigh business community.
She was known and loved as the devoted aunt to many nieces and nephews, who cherished her presence at family gatherings, dance recitals, military graduations, school events, ball games, and concerts. To them she was Fancy Nancy, Aunt Antsy, or simply Nancy—the cool aunt who always made time despite her demanding schedule. She is survived by Libby and Dean Caviness of Nashville, Lynne and James Taylor of Nashville, Art and Catherine Bunting of Stafford, Virginia, and her nieces and nephews Heath (Lisa), Lyndsey (Thomas), Brandon, Lauren (Tyler), DJ, Abby, Gracey (Noah), and great-nieces and nephews Presley and Mason.
Nancy remained deeply connected to her Nash County roots, returning home every weekend she could to visit relatives and attend services at Philadelphia Baptist Church. She retired in 2019 but continued working part-time for her longtime colleague Scott Ajac, who had been with her for 45 years and now carries on her professional legacy. The Ajac family embraced her as their own, providing cherished companionship in her later years.
