December 19, 1963— March 7, 2026
Independence, MO
Nancy Cooper of Independence, Missouri, passed away on March 7, 2026, at the age of 62. Born on December 19, 1963, in Independence, she was the daughter of the late Bill Cooper and the late Josephine (Gavin) Cooper. Nancy grew up in the Kentucky Hills Subdivision, where she formed many lasting friendships in the neighborhood.
She attended Lakeview Woods State School, where she thrived and genuinely loved learning. Nancy graduated in 1985 and went on to participate in a sheltered workshop at IBS in Grandview, Missouri, which she enjoyed just as much as her school days. She continued there until her retirement. For many years, Nancy lived in a group home in Independence with five other women. She cherished her independence, took several out-of-town vacations with her housemates, enjoyed watching television, and happily helped her friend Patty prepare dinner.
Nancy was known and remembered by many. She easily reconnected with former classmates and workshop friends throughout her life. An easy-going and compassionate person, she found joy in simple pleasures—eating out, doughnuts, and ice cream—and approached life with genuine happiness and appreciation for others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill Cooper in April 2012 and Josephine Cooper in March 2011, as well as her grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Nancy is survived by her brother, Jeff Cooper, who was proud to call her his sister and will always remember her warm smile and good-natured spirit. Those who knew her will miss her deeply.
