Myles Edwin King

February 26, 1962 March 13, 2026

Farmville, VA

Myles Edwin King, known to everyone as “Red,” passed away on March 13, 2026, at his home in Farmville, Virginia, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on February 26, 1962, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Fletcher James King and the late Virginia Swank King, Red grew up in Amelia and graduated from Appomattox High School. He spent his younger years working with his father on the family farm, later devoting many years to HVAC work before serving as a maintenance engineer with the National Parks Service in Appomattox.

Red had a vibrant presence that could light up any room. Fun, outgoing, and quick with a joke, he had a gift for making people laugh and feel at ease. Fiercely loyal and dependable, he was the kind of man others could always count on. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed following the Washington Commanders, the New York Yankees, and the University of Virginia Cavaliers. He also found joy in playing his guitar and was remembered for his outgoing personality and careful attention to detail.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara King; stepdaughter, Brenda Tuggle; stepson, James Robinson; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy Hill and Iris Davis; brothers, George King and Danny Mays; nephews, Stephen Davis (Laura) and Joseph Davis (Mayumi); nieces, Amanda, Bethany, Kimberly, Sarah, and Crystal; and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Melvin King, Ellis King, Roger King, and Rick Hill. The family is grateful for the compassionate care provided by the University of Virginia Hospice team, including Hannah and Priscilla, during his final weeks.
