Murlene Strange, affectionately known as Granny, was born on May 28, 1928, in Wilkinson County to the late Mary Jane Payne and the late Cleveland Strange. She grew up in Toomsboro, Georgia, where she attended school and, as a young woman, joined Jordan Stream Baptist Church. She remained a faithful member there for many years, serving until her health no longer allowed.
A devoted mother and provider, Murlene worked for many years at Vanner Saw Mill in Toomsboro, at Basset Furniture Company where she retired after thirty years, and at Thompson’s Cove Restaurant for ten years. She also cared for her community by babysitting and preparing hot meals for those in need. She was the oldest of four siblings—Lurlene Strange Carswell, Mary V. Strange, and J. C. Strange—all of whom preceded her in death, as did her son, Hubert S. Tremble.
Murlene passed away surrounded by the love of her family. She is survived by her daughter, Marie Strange; her daughter-in-law, Cynthia C. Tremble; three nieces; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and eleven great-great-grandchildren. Her life of quiet strength, hard work, and care for others will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
