Fort Dodge, IA
Muriel “Mickie” Messerly, 84, of Fort Dodge, passed away on March 13, 2025, at Woodlands Senior Living in Clive.
Born on August 18, 1941, in Fort Dodge, Mickie was the daughter of Charles and Delores (Wheaton) Spencer. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1959 and soon began working in the office at Celotex, where she met the love of her life, Bill Messerly. They married on December 5, 1959, in Blue Earth, Minnesota, and shared 65 years of marriage.
Mickie was known for her strength, spice, and sass. She devoted much of her life to raising her children while also working part-time in various roles. After the family moved to Janesville, Wisconsin, in 1982, she worked in the shipping department at LeMans Corporation. She and Bill cherished their time together traveling the country, attending professional football games, cruising to Alaska and the Caribbean, and spending time with their growing family. Mickie also treasured special “girls’ trips” with her daughters to New York City in 2001 and London in 2011. Her final vacation was a visit to her daughter and son-in-law in Georgia in August 2025. Even after retirement, she remained active, raising her granddaughter Kadi, driving for Dart, swimming with friends, and later enjoying bean bag baseball with her Woodlands team. In December, she fulfilled two cherished goals: walking Kadi down the aisle and holding her youngest great-grandson, Hudson.
Mickie was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She is survived by her children, Robert (Donna) Messerly of Spokane, Washington, Mike (Lorie) Messerly of Altoona, Iowa, Cindy (Tim) Wildt of Gainesville, Georgia, Jackie (Rich) Pullen of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Kadi (Carson) Fulcher of West Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; her brothers Chuck, Denny (Paula), and Randy (Brenda) Spencer; sister-in-law Judy (Steve) Powers; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, three brothers Gary, Ricky, and Greg, and her great-granddaughter Emma. Her family will always be grateful for the loving care she received at Woodlands Senior Living and from Suncrest Hospice during her final year, as well as the steadfast support of her lifelong friends and neighbors in Fort Dodge.
