b. March 21, 1974
Saint Louis, MO
Vernetta R. Sanders was born on March 21, 1974, in Saint Louis, Missouri, to the late Terry Sanders and her loving mother, Vernia Phillips (Cooper). She accepted Christ at an early age and graduated from Central Visual and Performing Arts High School in the class of 1993. Vernetta carried her passion for the arts with her throughout her life. She was at her most radiant when singing, dancing, and surrounded by the laughter of family and friends. Her vibrant energy had a way of brightening any room she entered.
Vernetta dedicated much of her life to serving others, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant and a Security Guard. Whether caring for patients in their most vulnerable moments or ensuring the safety of those around her, she served with a protective and nurturing heart. She was known for always going the extra mile to offer a kind word, living a vibrant life filled with love, kindness, and joy. She touched many hearts and will be deeply missed. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Above all, Vernetta’s greatest pride was her family. She leaves behind her beloved children, Darius Cartez Croft and Deonna Marie Croft, and her only grandchild, whom she called her “heart on the outside,” Zy’mir Dayshon Williams. She is also survived by her mother, Vernia Phillips (Cooper), her siblings Dr. Tereesha Sanders-Patterson, Kimberly Sanders, and Kelvin Melton, as well as her late sister Daysha Phillips, along with a host of aunts, uncles, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
