April 25, 1941— March 7, 2026
Fairmont, NC
Margie Ford Jones was born on April 25, 1941, to the late Rev. Marvin Ford and Ada Williams Ford. She passed away on March 7, 2026.
A 1959 honors graduate of Proctorville High School, where she was crowned Homecoming Queen, Margie later moved to New York before returning to North Carolina. She worked for many years at Acme Electric and in several other positions before finding her true calling as head cook at Classic Foods, where she served faithfully for 25 years until retirement.
In the kitchen, Margie’s gift for cooking became a powerful expression of love. Her meals brought comfort, joy, and togetherness to family, friends, and neighbors alike. Her home was a welcoming gathering place filled with laughter, stories, and good food, where children from the neighborhood always felt at home. Known for her humble, gentle spirit and quiet strength, she never needed to raise her voice to earn respect. Her calm wisdom and steady presence created a home rooted in love, discipline, and understanding.
Margie poured her heart into her children, loving them unconditionally and working tirelessly to guide and provide for them. She was a devoted grandmother whose affection ran especially deep for her grandchildren Isaiah and Legend, whom she lovingly called “Grandma’s babies.” She is survived by her daughters, Lyndia Thompson and Alika Thompson; her sons, Jerry Thompson, Terence Thompson, Richard (Tyrone) Thompson, and Reginal (Yonica) Thompson; her stepdaughter, Katrina Williams; brothers Billy Ford and Paul Ford; sister-in-law Ernestine Jones Wright; cousin Brenda Gilchrist; special cousin Peggy Walters; bonus children Fenise, Beverly, Kim, Mitchell, Sonja, Von, and Lawrence McNair; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Jones; son Darrion Thompson; granddaughter DeVanie Thompson; sister Linda Chester; brother Marvin Ford; siblings Junior Ford and Magdelene Ford; sister-in-law Ollie Madison; and cousin Ruby Johnson.
