Greenville, NC
Dorothy Lee Hyman, 94, of Greenville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, at The Service League of Greenville Hospice House.
Born on October 10, 1931, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Willie and Lela Hyman. Raised in a Christian home in Pitt County, she accepted Christ at an early age and later joined St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in the 1980s under the leadership of Reverend F.R. Peterson. She cherished her weekly worship services and was known for her signature church hats and the joy she found in fellowship with her church family.
Dorothy dedicated many years to farm work in her community before transitioning into home health care, where she continued until her retirement. She found great pleasure in listening to gospel music, cooking, reading the Bible, crocheting, and completing word searches. Above all, she loved long conversations with friends and family, blessed with a remarkable memory that allowed her to recall people and events from decades past with vivid clarity. She especially treasured the time she spent with her great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Delois Chance; son, Milton Hyman; sisters, Lula Mae Stancil, Erma Hyman, and Daisy Mayo; and brothers, Willie Hyman and Ruben Hyman.
