Shelly Peoples officiating. Interment will follow at Bogue Homa Community Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10am on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the Bogue Homa CERF building. John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.Ms. Steve, 79, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2026, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, Mississippi. She was born December 18, 1946, in Philadelphia, Mississippi, to the late Riley and Zonie (Nickey) Thomas.Ms. Steve served the Choctaw people as Tribal Council Representative for the Bogue Homa Community. First elected in 1999, she was recently re-elected and was serving her fifth term. During her tenure, she served under the administrations of Chief Phillip Martin, Miko Beasley Denson, Chief Phyllis Anderson, and current Tribal Chief Cyrus Ben.Ms. Steve was also a skilled basket weaver known for her distinct style and craftsmanship.She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Imogene Thompson, Bernice Frazier, and Vernita Thomas; and brothers Dorsey Thomas, Billy Wayne Thomas, and Olen Thomas.Survivors include her children Kevin Steve, Cherie Steve, Cheryl Steve, and Kimberly Steve; 13 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.Pallbearers will be Dewayne Smith, Cecil Thompson, Chris Thomas, Cecil Nickey, Jacob Thomas, and Lemuel Solomon.
