Khaton, 72, transitioned on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Nash UNC Health Care, Rocky Mount, North Carolina.Kerry Gale Khaton, lovingly known to her big sister as "KG" was born on January 27, 1954 to her loving parents, Wilbert & Marion Khaton. Kerry was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She attended McDonogh 35 High School and graduated in 1971. After graduating, Kerry worked for the United States Navy while continuing to live in New Orleans. In an effort to spread her wings and see more of the world, Kerry would move to the nation's capital, Washington DC in 1978. She would eventually land a job with the U.S. Department of the Treasury where she would be a good and faithful employee of that agency until 2004. Kerry retired in that year due to a medical condition that precluded her ability to continue to work. Kerry would eventually move to Rocky Mount, NC to be closer to her big sister Gwen Hines.Kerry would live out the rest of her years in Rocky Mount, living independently despite her considerable physical challenges. Kerry loved to sing and dance and in her early life, she could dance circles around most anyone! In her later years, she enjoyed going to Rocky Mount & Nashville Center where she made more friends than she could count. Kerry loved her New Orleans Saints football team, even during those seasons when the Saints were more appropriately known as the 'Aints! Kerry also developed a love for the UNC Tar Heels, influenced only slightly by the Hines family. Kerry will be remembered for many things but especially her Na'wlins accent, her unmistakable laughter, her sassy spirit and her ability to fall asleep anywhere at anytime.Kerry would pass away without a moan or a frown on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert & Marion Khaton and her brother Wilbert, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories her sister Gwen Hines and a host of cousins, nieces & nephews, friends and neighbors. Kerry made a lasting impression and enriched countless lives. She will be greatly missed.A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Mrs. Khaton will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at the H. D.
