Mrs. Alice Marie Greene

Alice Marie Hurst Greene was born on October 2, 1936, in Greenville, South Carolina, to Marvin Hurst and Zora Hurst. She grew up in a close family and shared strong bonds with her siblings, nieces, and nephews.

She attended Sterling High School in Greenville, South Carolina. Shortly after high school, she married Anthony Greene Sr., and together they built a life and family that lasted for 53 years. They lovingly raised five children: Zora Delphia Greene, Yvonne Marie Greene, Lisa Roseanne Greene Casado, Anthony Greene Jr., and Craig Allen Greene.

Later, Alice became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and worked for 25 years at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, New Jersey. Caring for people was a big part of her life, and she did it with strength, experience, and dedication.

Alice was strong, direct, and full of personality. She could be loving and sharp at the same time, and if she had something to say, she said it. She was truly one of a kind.

A Mother, Grandmother, and Matriarch

Alice Marie Hurst Greene loved her family deeply and in her own way made sure everybody knew it. She enjoyed family gatherings, cookouts, road trips, and being around the people she loved. She especially loved cooking and was known for homemade desserts like banana pudding and rice pudding.

She lived a full life with strength, style, and personality. She was not quiet, not forgettable, and definitely not ordinary. She was a firecracker, and the people who knew her best knew exactly what that meant. She spoke her mind, stood her ground, and still held her family together in ways that mattered.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Greene Sr.; her two sisters, Barbara Jane Hurst Lloyd and Virginia Lee Madden; and her five brothers, Robert Hurst, Samuel Earl Hurst, Clarence Hurst, Marvin Hurst, and James Allen Hurst.

Her presence, her voice, and her way of being will be missed, but her memory will stay with her family always.

Alice Marie Hurst Greene’s love, strength, and personality will live on through the many lives she touched. She leaves behind a family who will remember her, talk about her, laugh about her, and carry her with them always.

She was herself all the way through — strong, memorable, and deeply loved.

Funeral Services: Saturday, March 21, 2026, 1:00pm, at Watkins Garrett & Woods Mortuary, with interment in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
