February 17, 1937— March 4, 2026
Guntersville, AL
Lorenzia Dunbar Rogers, affectionately known as “Windy” or LD, was born in Paducah, Kentucky, on February 17, 1937, and passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, at the age of 89.
LD devoted more than sixty years to the automotive industry, beginning at King Woodall Ford and Allan Rhodes Ford in Paducah. He later served as parts manager for Woody Anderson Ford in Huntsville, Alabama, before spending twenty-eight years as parts and service manager at Alexander Ford in Boaz, retiring in 2016. He also served in the Kentucky National Guard and the United States Army, and was honored to serve as a member of the honor guard at the 1956 funeral of Vice President Alben Barkley.
A gifted musician from an early age, LD began playing piano at five and guitar at twelve. He performed with numerous bands, including military ensembles, and provided music for countless parties and weddings. For many years he played keyboard at Trinity Lutheran Church in Scottsboro and at Genesis, a former ministry of First Methodist Church in Guntersville. In retirement, he found great joy playing and singing with friends at the Guntersville Senior Center and Terrace Lake Assisted Living, where he and dear companions Denny Harp, David Nelson, and Bud Palmer led uplifting Sunday worship services for residents, family, and friends. He was a longtime member of Asbury Church in Madison and faithfully followed its mobile worship services. LD also cherished writing stories from his life, contributing twenty-five pieces to Old Huntsville Magazine.
Above all, LD treasured time spent with family and friends. He is survived by his daughters, Carrie Ann Rogers Gray and her husband Tommy of Madison, Alabama, and Diana Love of Paducah, Kentucky; his sister, Angharad “Ann” Futrell of Granite City, Illinois; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Harriet Taber of Paducah; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dunbar Hilliard and Rena Mae Covington Rogers; his daughter, Lorenda Dee Rogers Chatellier; his granddaughters, Brittany and Danielle Chatellier; and his brother, John Rogers.
