He departed this earthly on March 5, 2026, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.During his early life, Cortez accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and he attended Northwest Halifax High School in Littleton, North Carolina. He received a degree in Computer Application (DAC) and was employed with Huttig Building Products in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, until ill health prevailed."Tez" loved spending time with his children and family, keeping his cars clean, and watching all sports, especially the Carolina Panthers.Cortez was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Claude and Lucy Marie Jefferson; and his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Annie Burgess.Those remaining to cherish the precious memories of his life and love are his parents, Susie Jackson and Thomas Burgess; his father-of-the-heart, Floyd Jackson; his children: Isiah, Quantavious, Cortasia, Cortez, Cayden, Carter, Corlani, and his daughter-of-the-heart, Jaziyah;his siblings, Dorothy Jefferson of Weldon, NC, Joshua Jackson of the home, and Travis (Zenee') of Roanoke Rapids, NC; eleven aunts: Merdis Robinson (Henry), Janie Faulcon, Donnie Mason (Jerry), Edith Taylor (Robert), Linda Fields, Daisy Alston (Elvis), Lorraine Jefferson, and Bobbie Burchette all of Littleton, North Carolina, and Pearlene Fobbs, Vanessa Minggia, and Marie Griffen (Jeff) all of Newport News, VA; three uncles, Mack Burgess (Karen) of Newport News, VA, Clarence Lee Burgess (Queen) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Donnell Burgess (Darlene) of Littleton, NC; four great-aunts: Barbara Warren of Hertford, NC, Carolyn Bowe of Elizabeth City, NC, Christine Davis of Littleton, NC, and Josephine Lewis (Phillip) of Hampton, VA; two great-uncles, JC Harvey and Mac Harvey of Littleton, NC; his special cousins, Jerry Jefferson and Terrell Alston, who loved him dearly; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends.An initial viewing and visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Robinson Funeral Home, 215 US highway 158, Littleton, NC. The final viewing is on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 12:00 noon until the funeral service time at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Pastor Artez Adkins will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the Mt.
