Alphonso McCloud ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Bland Funeral Home - Petersburg on Feb. 25, 2026.Mr. Alphonso Lee McCloud, Sr., of Hopewell, Virginia, departed this life after a long and meaningful journey.He was born on April 23, 1946, at Courthouse Road in Hopewell, Virginia, to the late Margaret Elrita Wallace.During his senior year of high school, Alphonso was drafted into the United States Army, where he later completed his education while serving his country. His military service became a defining part of his life. He faithfully served in the United States Army and Army Reserves for 30 years, retiring with the distinguished rank of First Sergeant.After his military career, Alphonso worked as a warehouse worker for DLA Richmond Defense Supply at Bellwood, where he dedicated many years of dependable service.Alphonso was known for his strong will, bright smile, and warm sense of humor. He took great pride in fellowship and service to fellow veterans. For more than 20 years, he was an active member of the Albert Lee Mills Post of the VFW Veterans Organization, where he later served faithfully as treasurer until the post closed in February 2025.He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Margaret Elrita Wallace; his beloved grandmother, Mae Lowery McCloud; his cherished aunts, Ellen Jones and Charlena Tucker; and his only uncle, Ciscero McCloud, Jr.He leaves to cherish his memory four adult children: Marvin Tyler (fiancé, Shamika Taylor), Alphonso L. McCloud, Jr., Kevin R. McCloud, and his only daughter, Patrice N. McCloud.Affectionately known as "Pop Pop," he adored his grandchildren: Zophia and Veda McCloud; Jayveon McCloud; Cameron Pegram; Trey E. Streeter; Keisha Dowd; Diamond Tyler; Ashunay Hill;and Tevin Tyler; and 2 bonus step granddaughters, Shakeyera and Qualisha Taylor. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Chloe Dowd and baby Jo-Mir Hill.He is further survived by his dear maternal aunt, Harriet Mae Jones of Hopewell, along with her daughters Monica Turner and Tina L. Hunter. Alphonso also leaves behind many extended relatives of the Lowery family in Lynchburg, South Carolina, and Fort Washington, Maryland, as well as a host of devoted friends. Among them, devoted friend, Ms. Evelyn, known affectionately as "sister" and other dear friends will continue to remember the strong-willed, loving, funny, man with the brightest smile who brightened all of our lives leaving an imprint we'll never forget.A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm, Saturday, March 14, 2026 at the Petersburg chapel of Bland Funeral Home, 137 Harrison Street, Petersburg. Interment will follow in Mt. Sinai Community Cemetery, Prince George, VA.
