September 8, 1941— March 9, 2026
Mobile, AL
Mose McKee, Jr. was born in Mobile, Alabama, to the late Olivia and Mose McKee, Sr. on September 8, 1941. He confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir. A proud 1960 graduate of Central High School, he joined the United States Army after graduation and served his country during the Vietnam War. His military honors included the Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Purple Heart.
Mose later married the love of his life, Gwendolyn Deloris Joiner McKee. He was a devoted provider for his family and worked for Kimberly-Clark, formerly Scott Paper Company, for thirty-four years until his retirement on July 1, 2001. A man of deep faith, he later joined and faithfully served at Fellowship Christian Church.
To know Mose was to love him. He possessed a quick wit and a deep love of laughter, always wearing a smile and sharing jokes that filled the room. Those who knew him learned to appreciate his playful teasing, often delivered with the phrase “properly dismissed,” yet he never failed to send friends and family on their way with the warm parting words, “hold it in the road” and “stay in your lane.”
Mose transitioned from this life on March 9, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olivia and Mose McKee, Sr.; his loving wife of thirty-five years, Gwendolyn Joiner McKee; two brothers, Earl David Thompson and Climmie Leon Motley; and his sister, Carrie Lucille Starks. He leaves to cherish his memory his two children, Lorenzo Joseph (Felicia) McKee and Suzette Olivia McKee; godson, Renard Knight; five grandchildren, Lorenzo Sanders McKee, Lauren “Baby Doc” McKee, Michaele Douglas, Mikaili Douglas, and Simone Douglas; three great-grandchildren, Kai Jones, Logan Khalesi, and Lorenzo Joseph Lee McKee; two devoted nephews, Michael Starks and Marty Starks; a sister-in-law, Charlene Watson; devoted friends Dewitt Dowell, Labaron Grove, and Earlean Douglas; and a host of other relatives and friends, all of whom will carry his spirit forward.
