Earlysville, VA
Montie Dale Shifflett, Sr., 69, of Earlysville, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at his home. Born on March 15, 1956, in Charlottesville, Virginia, to the late Billy Randolph Shifflett and Haselteen Morris Shifflett, Montie proudly served in the United States Army before building a life centered on hard work, quiet pleasures, and deep devotion to his family.
An avid hunter, he found peace in the outdoors, valuing the patience and stillness the sport demanded. He also possessed a true gift for working with his hands, spending many contented hours in his home autobody shop restoring cars and taking great pride in bringing vehicles back to life. Music brought him joy as well, particularly the lively atmosphere of bluegrass festivals. At heart, however, Montie was a homebody who cherished nothing more than being at home, comfortable and surrounded by those he loved. His greatest happiness came from his family, especially his grandchildren, whose visits filled him with quiet delight as he created lasting memories with them.
Montie will be remembered for his quiet strength, his dedication to the things and people he held dear, and the steady love he showed his family throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of more than 51 years, Patsy Jean Shifflett; his children, Edward Randolph Shifflett, Montie Dale Shifflett, Jr. (wife, Tabitha, whom Montie affectionately called Tamitha), Christopher James Shifflett (wife, Teresa), and Angela Victoria Alvarez (husband, Erik); his grandchildren, Danielle Shifflett, Kelsey Arrington (husband, Kaleb), Autumn Shifflett, Christopher Shifflett, Jr., Briana Shifflett, Hunter Shifflett, Priscilla Alvarez, Ethan Alvarez, and Evelynn Alvarez; his great-grandchildren, Walker Arrington and Tinsleigh Rogers; his siblings, Stanley Shifflett, Walter “Ricky” Shifflett (wife, Theresa), Anthony “Tony” Shifflett, and Lori Ann Gausman (husband, Curt); and his beloved MinPin, Roxy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William “Randy” Shifflett (wife, Brenda).
