Monnie Genine Hicks

Monnie Genine Daniel Hicks, age 91, of Mitchell, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026. A native of Mitchell, she was the daughter of Nesbert and Lolia Downs Daniel. She retired from the United States Postal Service after a dedicated career and was a longtime member of Friendship Baptist Church in Mitchell.

Monnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter Lloyd Hicks, and her son Carey Hicks. She is survived by her daughters Dianne Hunt of Dearing, Debbie Johns of Washington, Joyce Hicks-Paugh of Johnston, South Carolina, and Kathy Jowers and her husband Jimmy of Hohenwald, Tennessee; her sons Walter “Butch” Hicks and his wife Marie of Statesboro, Donald Hicks and his wife Julie of North Augusta, South Carolina, Dennis Hicks of Appling, and Randy Hicks of Houston, Texas; and fourteen grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her quiet strength, her deep faith, and the steadfast love she showed her large and loving family.
