Oak Brook, IL
Molly A. Barr, age 86, of Oak Brook, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, surrounded by her family. Born on February 28, 1940, in Brazil, Indiana, to the late Eva Mae and James Austin Winn, Molly graduated from Wiley High School in Terre Haute and Indiana State University. She worked as an artist, art teacher, substitute teacher, tutor, and retail associate, bringing creativity and warmth to each role. A proud former marching band majorette, she delighted in sharing stories from those years. Molly possessed a deep love of flowers and took great pride in the beautiful paintings she created throughout her life.
Her gift for hospitality defined much of who she was. A talented baker and cook, Molly was a gracious hostess who made everyone feel welcome. Family remained at the center of her world. She married her high school sweetheart, Donald A. Barr, in June of 1962, and they shared 54 years of marriage until his passing in 2016. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother known affectionately as “Mimi.” Molly found immense joy in her grandchildren’s lives, faithfully attending their academic, athletic, and extracurricular events, often traveling across state lines to be present.
After decades in Indianapolis where she and Don raised their children, Molly moved in November 2022 to The Sheridan at Oak Brook. There she formed new friendships, embraced new hobbies, and enjoyed being closer to her daughter Susan and her family. She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Grant) Dixon of La Grange, Illinois; her son, Mark (Cristy) Barr of Carmel, Indiana; and her grandchildren: Molly and Madeline Dixon of Chicago, Illinois; Grant Dixon IV of La Grange, Illinois; and Katherine, McKenna, and Kayla Barr of Carmel, Indiana. Those who knew Molly will always remember the gentle light she brought into their lives.
