Bellingham, WA
Mittsie Ortiz passed away on March 8, 2026. Born on March 30, 1945, in Oriente Province, Cuba, she moved with her family to Brooklyn, New York, in 1961. There she met Guillermo Ortiz, and the two were married in 1964. The couple later moved to Los Angeles for Guillermo’s work as a piping designer in the oil and gas industry, where Mittsie devoted herself to creating a loving home and raising their four children.
Around 1974, the family settled in Bellingham, Washington. Mittsie took great pride in caring for her home and family. She was a wonderful cook who loved flowers and gardening, and she found deep joy in hosting family gatherings and holidays. A longtime member of Nooksack Valley Baptist Church, she was known for her generous heart and her willingness to care for anyone who needed mothering. She was a devoted grandmother and cherished the many dogs that shared her life over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Guillermo Ortiz; her parents; her brother, Rafael; and her sister, Janet.
She is survived by her children, Annette Rose (David), Karen Hobby, Jacob Ortiz, and Andrew Ortiz; three grandchildren, Janét (Kyle), Jordan, and Jayma; one great-grandchild on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.
