Mitchell Clarence Owen

1952 — 2026

Whiteland, IN

Mitchell Clarence Owen Jr. passed away on March 10, 2026. Born on December 3, 1952, in Gallatin, Tennessee, to Mitchell Clarence Owen Sr. and Wendolyn Moss Owen, he graduated from Greenwood High School in the class of 1971. He went on to earn an associate’s degree in engineering from ITT Technical Institute in 1973 and spent more than thirty years at Mallory Controls, where he formed many lasting friendships.

Mitchell had a lifelong passion for all things automotive, technology, and science. Known for his remarkable ability to fix anything and to create inventive solutions from whatever materials were at hand, he brought both skill and ingenuity to everything he touched. In his younger years he enjoyed water skiing at Dale Hollow, snow skiing, tennis, and golf. In retirement, he cherished quiet time spent with family, friends, and especially his grandchildren. He was also a longtime member of the Mallory Conservation Club and found great joy in the outdoors.

He married Linda Burk in 1978, and together they welcomed their daughter, Casey, in 1987. Mitchell is survived by his daughter, Casey (Nathan) Hedeen; grandchildren Kellan, Penelope, and Mack Hedeen; and sisters Vicki (Dan) Williams and Glynda Young. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Lori Phillips and Shane Owen.
