January 1, 1932— March 15, 2026
Pawcatuck, CT
Mildred Louise “Millie” Furey LaMarche, 93, of Pawcatuck, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1932 to George and Mildred Furey, she spent her early years in Riverside and Cranston before her family returned to Wequetequock. Known affectionately as “Peanut,” she was a proud Stonington High School Bears cheerleader and graduated with the Class of 1951.
While working at Vars Pharmacy in Westerly, Millie met her future husband, Jerome R. LaMarche, after a blind date arranged by his brother Phil and wife Barbara. They married in 1955 at Saint Michael the Archangel Church and raised their family in a lively home on Moss Street in Pawcatuck filled with children and friends for more than thirty years. A proud descendant of Mayflower Pilgrims John and Elizabeth Tilley and William and Ann Brewster, she was a longtime member of the George and Ann Denison Homestead Society and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Abigail Hinman Chapter in Stonington. She enjoyed a fifty-year career at the Washington Trust Company before retiring.
Millie was a devoted mother to Suzanne (Earl) Matteson of Pawcatuck, John of Lompoc, California, Thomas of Lebanon, Connecticut, George of Mystic, Connecticut, and Paul “Bill” (Colleen) of Pawcatuck. She was the cherished grandmother of eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and she adored her little dog Skunky. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Jerome, her sister Dorothy Furey, her brother James Furey, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Jennie Venturini, William Hopkins, and Rudy Pelchat.
Whether traveling to Europe to visit her children in the military, flying to California to see her son and grandchildren, or taking a cross-country road trip with her daughter, Millie’s adventures always ended with the same heartfelt words: “We had a good time, didn’t we?” Her family will carry those joyful memories and her loving spirit with them always.
