Mildred Louise Greene Harless, lovingly known as Peggy, age 88, of West Jefferson, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Born on May 7, 1937, in Caldwell County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Hardy McDonald and Mildred Perkins Greene. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rayborne M. Harless, and her sister, Sally Ann Farmer.

Peggy worked for many years at United Chemi-Con and later retired from Sara Lee Knit Products, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic. She found great joy in sewing, tending her garden, and canning its harvest to share with family and friends. A woman of deep faith, she was a faithful and active member of Friendly Grove Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk for more than 30 years. She was remembered for her reliability, kindness, and the quiet, steadfast love she showed her church family.

Peggy will be remembered for her caring spirit, her devotion to her faith, and the many ways she served others. Her life was a blessing to all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her son, Dwight Harless, her daughter, Roberta Harless, and her sister, Linda Hahn Rash, all of West Jefferson. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Michelle Severt and her husband, Marcus, of Lansing, and Natalie Williams and her husband, Tyler, of Granite Falls, as well as a great-granddaughter on the way and several nieces and nephews.
