Lake Charles, LA
Mildred Ozane Fontenot, 90, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026. Born on April 30, 1935, to Lawrence Ozane and Mildred Victorian Ozane, she was affectionately known as “Sis.” As the eldest daughter, she lovingly cared for her younger siblings from an early age and remained the cherished “mother hen” of the Ozane family throughout her life, offering a nurturing spirit and deep love to all those around her.
Mildred retired from the Calcasieu Parish School Board after many years at Moss Bluff Elementary School. A devoted member of St. Henry Catholic Church, her faith served as a constant guiding force. She found simple pleasures in cooking, fishing, and attending zydeco dances, yet her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was especially remembered for her delicious gumbo, smothered okra and sausage, and the special homemade treats she lovingly prepared for family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory six children, two sisters, two brothers, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris “Gibb” Fontenot; two daughters, Eva Pitre and Bobbie Jean Captain; her parents; and several brothers and sisters.
Mildred’s life was a beautiful reflection of faith, love, and unwavering devotion to family. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
