Old Bridge, NJ
Michele (Michael) Maiello, 80, of Old Bridge, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 5, 2026.
Born on June 8, 1945, in Rotondi, Italy, to Angelo and Vincenza Maiello, Michael spent his early childhood there with his beloved brother. At the age of 11, his family immigrated to the United States, settling in Brooklyn, New York. He embraced his new life, working diligently through high school to support his family while building a future in his adopted country.
Gifted with a natural talent for music, Michael earned a scholarship to Brooklyn College. Music remained a lifelong passion; in his spare time, he taught neighborhood children to play, finding great joy in sharing his gift. In the 1980s, he earned a Master’s degree in Mathematics and became a respected educator, teaching at Tilden High School, Curtis High School, and Tottenville High School, where he inspired countless students before retiring.
In 1976, Michael met the love of his life, Susanna. They married and built their life together, first in Brooklyn and later in New Jersey, where they raised their family. A devoted father, he was deeply involved in his children’s lives, attending soccer games, sharing wisdom, and teaching them the importance of family. A talented musician and Maestro, he performed across the country and mentored many young artists. One of his proudest moments was performing at Shea Stadium during Italian Night, a heartfelt connection to his Italian roots.
In his later years, Michael cherished time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed visiting social clubs, playing cards at the Old Bridge Senior Center, and sharing his favorite wine and gin martinis. Known for his warmth, kindness, and generosity, he would help anyone without hesitation. Above all, his family was his greatest pride and joy. His presence, wisdom, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Susanna Maiello; his sons Amedeo and his wife Carissa, Filippo and his wife Erika, and Michael and his wife Regina; his daughter Cinzia and her husband Joseph; his adored grandchildren Joseph, James, Arianna, Aviana, Gabriella, Vienna, Michael, Lucas, Vanessa, and Emily; his sister-in-law MariaFranca; his cherished nieces Michela and Angela; and many other family members and dear friends.
