Michal Mazurkiewicz, 77, of Kensington, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in Russia, he moved with his family to Poland before immigrating to the United States. They first settled in Albany, New York, with relatives, later making their home in New Britain, Connecticut, and then Kensington in 1992.
A graduate of New Britain High School, Class of 1969, Michal worked as a Maintenance Mechanic at Kohler Mix Specialties in Newington for more than 30 years. He possessed a remarkable talent for carpentry, building furniture and other creations with his hands, including a large playscape that brought great joy to his daughters during their childhood. He loved the outdoors, whether fishing or taking long walks, and cherished springtime above all seasons. Red was always his favorite color.
Michal will be remembered as a kind and gentle man whose quiet strength and loving nature left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Lynn Ahlquist; three daughters, Isabelle DeRose and her husband John of Bradenton, Florida, Alison Mazurkiewicz of Glastonbury, Connecticut, and Erika Mazurkiewicz of Middletown, Connecticut; his sister, Irene Zbrozek and her husband Richard of Berlin, Connecticut; and three nieces, Nancy Moore and her husband Jay of Bradenton, Florida, Tanya Zbrozek of Bradenton, Florida, and Elizabeth Ahlquist of Scottsville, Virginia. He was predeceased by his parents, Mikolaj and Zofia (Kanczugowska) Mazurkiewicz.
