Michael Walker Chaney

Michael Walker Chaney, 70, of Hertford, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at his home, surrounded by family.

Born in Norfolk, Virginia on January 11, 1956, Michael was the son of the late Richard H. Chaney Sr. and Frances W. Chaney. A dedicated and loving husband and father, he found deep satisfaction in the outdoors, particularly fishing and woodworking, yet nothing brought him greater joy than time spent with his family and loved ones. He worked as a shipwright at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard until his retirement.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard H. Chaney Jr. and David C. Chaney.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Susan Chaney; his daughter, Andrea Powell (Mark); his son, Cameron Chaney (Jessica); and his cherished grandchildren, Ellis Powell, Lawson Powell, Connor Chaney, and Addison Chaney. He was a loving uncle to Richard Chaney III (April), great-uncle to Richard Chaney IV (Angel), and brother-in-law to Tony St. Jacques (Laurie). He is also survived by many special family members and his devoted K-9 companion, Wink.
