October 14, 1940— March 1, 2026
Tacoma, WA
Michael Alexander Tucci, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on October 14, 1940, in Tacoma to Michael J. and Josephine Tucci (Marsico), Mike attended a one-room schoolhouse in McMillan before enrolling at St. Patrick’s School. He graduated from Bellarmine Preparatory School in 1957 at the age of 16 and went on to earn his degree from Gonzaga University in 1961, an institution that remained close to his heart throughout his life. While at Gonzaga, he met the love of his life, Mary Jo McKinnon, and they married on November 18, 1961. Their marriage of 57 years ended when Mary Jo passed peacefully on October 29, 2018, with Mike and their family at her side.
Mike dedicated 40 years to Tucci and Son’s, where his leadership contributed to many significant regional projects, including the construction of the Tacoma Dome and numerous city, county, and state road improvements that continue to serve the community. He also served as president of Tacoma’s Triple A baseball team and on the boards of Western Community Bank, Sound Bank, Regence Blue Shield, Bellarmine Preparatory School, and the Gonzaga University Board of Regents. His integrity, vision, and steady leadership left a lasting impact on Tacoma, Pierce County, and the Pacific Northwest.
Deeply committed to his community, Mike was a passionate supporter of Catholic education and helping those in need, particularly the homeless and the hungry. He championed fundraising efforts for Bellarmine Preparatory School, the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation, the Emergency Food Network, Hunger Walk, Nativity House, L’Arche Tahoma Hope, and the Tacoma Rescue Mission/Good Neighbor Village Project. His generosity strengthened these organizations for the benefit of future generations.
Above all, Mike cherished time with his family, whether at dinners, celebrations, or cheering for his beloved Gonzaga Bulldogs basketball team. He loved traveling with Mary Jo and friends, sharing good wine and laughter. He is survived by his children Michael F. (Mimi), Timothy F. (Barbara), and Maria J. Sessler (Jon); six grandchildren: Michael Sessler (Haley), Madeline Miller (Cade), Mary Kathleen Smith (Jared), Sarah Forsyth (Peter), Tim Tucci Jr. (Ashleigh), and Michael D. Tucci (fiancée Christina Caruso); and eight great-grandchildren. Mike will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his faith, family, hard work, humility, and devoted service to his community.
