Michael Stephen “Mike” McCormick, age 73, of Middletown, Virginia, peacefully passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, at his residence. Born on October 24, 1952, in Washington, D.C., Mike was the son of the late Robert N. McCormick and Eva N. McCormick (Mauck). A 1971 graduate of Wakefield High School who later attended Northern Virginia Community College, he served his community as a Police Officer in Middletown before becoming a Program Analyst for the Department of Defense in Arlington.
Mike possessed a brilliant, inquisitive mind and was always eager to share his thoughts on life and current events. An avid reader and dedicated student of history, he held a particular passion for the Civil War. He loved the outdoors, spending many hours metal detecting in search of unique discoveries, fishing along quiet shores, and riding his bicycle along Route 11. Like his father before him, he also enjoyed the simple pleasure of a cold beer or a whiskey.
He was preceded in death by his beloved cats, Patience and Fangster, his younger brother, Sean C. McCormick, and his nephew, Christopher S. McCormick. Mike is survived by his devoted twin sister, Deborah A. McCormick of Wachapreague, Virginia, and his niece, Eliza M. M. Kutrieb of Culpeper, Virginia. Deborah wishes to thank their cousin, Randy Coffman, for his steadfast help and friendship to Mike over the years.
A private celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date.
