Hilton Head, SC

Michael R. Mosher, 70, of Hilton Head, South Carolina and Kennebunk, Maine, passed away on March 5 at his home in Hilton Head.

Born on April 3, 1955, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Charles and Ruth Mosher, Michael attended the University of Michigan and Saint Louis University School of Law. He served as a Major in the Army JAG Corps, participating in humanitarian missions in Central America. An accomplished litigator, he was a partner at Mirick O’Connell in Worcester, Massachusetts for more than twenty years, where he specialized in medical malpractice and skillfully defended numerous hospitals and physicians across the region.

Michael married Susan Mosher (née Goulet) on September 1, 1978, in Manchester, New Hampshire. He is survived by his wife Susan; his siblings Mary Frey, Pat and Tony Rutz, Sally Lucas, Charlene and Carl Herstein, and Jane and Bob Totte; his children Geoffrey Mosher and Jaclyn Mosher-Bruss, along with their spouses Ana Beesen and Andrew Bruss; and his grandchildren Margot and Zoë Mosher.

Known for his quick wit and wry sense of humor, Michael could charm a jury with a clever remark as easily as he could bring a smile to family and friends. A devoted Michigan Wolverines fan, avid golfer, and enthusiastic reader of history, he faced young onset Parkinson’s disease with remarkable positivity and grace after his diagnosis in 1999. Even after retiring from his legal practice in 2002 and undergoing deep brain stimulation surgery in 2005, he remained active and inspired those around him. Together with Susan, he supported research through the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases at Mass General Brigham, the Michael J. Fox Foundation, and the Davis Phinney Foundation in hopes of advancing treatments and finding cures for Parkinson’s and related conditions.
