Grove City, OH

Michael Joseph Rizco, age 74, affectionately known by many as Papi, Mikey, Papa Riz, Papino, Gagoo, Papa Smurf, Lefty, and the Big Kahuna, passed away on March 8, 2026, at Mount Carmel Hospital in Grove City, Ohio. Born on July 17, 1951, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, to parents Catino Rizco and Theresa Szymborski, he grew up in South River, New Jersey, where he attended South River High School and played football. From an early age, Michael embodied strength, dedication, and a deep commitment to serving others, qualities that defined his entire life.

He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage and duty that remained with him always. Michael later worked as a firefighter, EMT, and truck driver, bringing the same hard work, resilience, and compassion to every role. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including time spent with friends at the North Brunswick Pub, visits to the Jersey Shore and Atlantic City, and his passionate love of sports. A devoted fan of the New York Giants, New York Yankees, and Ohio State Buckeyes, he also cherished watching professional wrestling with his son Joey and granddaughter Cadence.

An exceptional cook who spent years working in restaurants, Michael took great pride in preparing meals for family and friends. He especially loved cooking Thanksgiving dinner and gathering loved ones during the holidays, where his generosity and warmth were always on full display. Above all, he was devoted to his family as a loving husband to his wife Kathy, a guiding mentor to his children, and a hero to his cherished granddaughter.

Michael is survived by his wife, Kathleen Rizco; his children, Joey Rizco, Shelly Rizco, and Denise O’Halloran; his granddaughter, Cadence Marie Rizco; and his siblings, Johnny Rizco, Dr. Cathy Brown, and Fran Baker. He leaves behind many dear friends who were like family to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Catino and Theresa Rizco, and his siblings, Barbara and Billy Rizco. His kindness, humor, and strength touched countless lives and will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
