Michael J. Costello

March 18, 1957 March 9, 2026

St. Joseph, MN

Michael J. Costello, age 68, of St. Joseph, passed away on March 9, 2026, at St. Cloud Hospital following a courageous health battle.

Born on March 18, 1957, in Moorhead, Minnesota, to Robert and Faye (Bundy) Costello, Mike grew up in the Dilworth/Moorhead area and attended school in Dilworth. At 18, his family moved to Elk River, where he continued his education at Anoka Technical and Community College. He began his career as a maintenance mechanic at Minneapolis Electric Steel Foundry (MESCO). In 1980, he met the love of his life, Cyndi, and her son Mark. They married and together raised three children: Jon, Amanda, and stepson Mark. The family later settled in the St. Cloud area, where Mike worked for M.E. International, which became Grede Foundry, and later at Pan O’ Gold Bakery. He retired in 2013 and moved to St. Joseph in 2015.

Mike was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished time spent with his grandchildren and his beloved cats. Before retirement, he enjoyed riding his Harley with his brother and friends. He found simple pleasures in watching movies, sharing a cold beer, smoking meats, and barbecuing. He will be remembered for his deep love of family and cats, his strong work ethic, and his famously frugal nature and coupon collecting.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cyndi; children Jon (Cyndy) and Amanda; stepson Mark Heurkins; grandchildren Hailee Tran, Ryan Costello, and Jack Costello; step-grandchildren Ella and Cash Olson; siblings Shirley (Dave) Dibrito, Peggy Blake, Linda (Doug) Hunter, and Denny (Kim) Costello; sister-in-law Bernadette Costello; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Costello, and brother-in-law Alan Blake.
