Michael Rice ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Hauss-Modetz Funeral Home on Mar. 16, 2026.Michael Hugh Rice of Harrison Township passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at the age of 85.Mike was born on August 10, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to William M. and Ruth (Fraser) Rice. He attended Roseville High School and took a few classes at college before deciding to follow his love for cars and fixing them. Mike owned and operated many businesses over the years and worked very hard to support his family. On April 1, 1966, he married Susanna Weckerly and they shared many wonderful years together before her passing in 2018. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling with his family. Mike was very creative and found creative ways to make many things. He had an extensive knowledge of cars and equipment which was very helpful with his businesses. He also loved to travel and enjoyed being chauffer for the family on many adventures to skating competitions and trips to Pennsylvania over the years. Mike loved holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. Being able to get together with family for the big meals and decorating always brought him a lot of happiness. Mike also enjoyed spending time at the cottage on Georgian Bay in Canada with family and friends. Mike will be missed by his family and those who knew him.Mike is survived by his daughter, Heather (Jay) Chapin; son, Scott (Stephanie) Rice; grandson, Joseph Maxwell Chapin and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his siblings, Larry Rice, William "Doug" Rice and Phil Rice and his parents.Visitation for Mike will take place on Friday, April 10, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hauss-Modetz Funeral Home, 47477 Romeo Plank, Macomb. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with a 10:00 a.m. instate time at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 17051 24 Mile Road, Macomb.Memorial tributes would be appreciated to Skyline Camp and Retreat Center.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
