March 10, 1946— March 11, 2026
Waukegan, IL
Michael Henneberry, 80, a proud U.S. Army veteran and lifelong Chicagoan at heart, passed away on March 11, 2026, in Waukegan, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly. The son of Patrick and Mary Catherine Henneberry, Michael lived a life marked by service, intellect, and a deep commitment to mentoring others.
After his military service, he became a pioneer in the early days of the technology industry, founding his own computer consulting business. A true jack-of-all-trades, his career spanned many fields, culminating in his role as an adjunct professor at Oakton College, where he shared his knowledge and experience with students.
Nothing brought Michael greater pride than his family. He was a constant presence in the stands at his son’s high school games and a devoted supporter of his daughter’s artistic pursuits. To his grandchildren, he was affectionately known as “Big Papa,” a role he cherished deeply. A 50-year friend of Bill W., Michael offered his wisdom and steady guidance to countless individuals over the decades.
He is survived by his children, Rachel Carolyn Henneberry and Daniel Thomas (Kacy) Henneberry; grandchildren Harper and Paige; siblings Brian (the late Marge), Kevin (the late Elsa), Teri (Ted) Miller, Colleen (Bill) Reed, and Patrick (Karen); sister-in-law Barbara Duda; and brother-in-law Richard Lane. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Lane) Henneberry in 2012; his parents, Patrick Edward Henneberry and Mary Catherine Prendergast; his sister, Kathleen (the late Robert Kustusch); and his brother-in-law, Robert Lane.
