Michael Glen "Mike" Standish

Michael ""Mike"" Glen Standish of Murphy, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the age of 60. He died of natural causes. Mike graduated from Boca Raton High School and attended the University of Central Florida. He began his career with Coca-Cola as a technician and later joined his father in the family business, Standish Construction. He worked at Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino in Murphy as an engineering technician, where he was employed until his death. Mike enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting and camping, and was an avid reader with a playful sense of humor. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a Fourth Degree Knight. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard ""Dick"" Standish; and his maternal grandparents, George ""Jazzy"" VanVliet and Betty VanVliet. He is survived by his mother, Judith ""Judy"" Van-Vliet Standish of Murphy; his brothers, Robert ""Bob"" Standish (Kimberly) of Boca Raton, Fla., William ""Bill"" Standish (Denyse) of Canton, Ga., and Thomas ""Tom"" Standish (Angela) of Cornelius, N.C. Mike had no children of his own, but his nieces and nephews held a special place in his life: David Goodman (Brittney), Shelby Rose Standish (Chris), Tyler Standish, Peyton Standish, Ashley Barrett (Timothy), Alyssa Standish, Alyson Standish, Jackson Standish, Richard ""Shea"" Standish (Sloane), Sydney Standish and Sophia Standish; great-niece, Addie Goodman; and great-nephew, Dylan Goodman. He will also be lovingly remembered by his aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 13, at St. William Catholic Church in Murphy, N.C., with Father Augustine Ogar officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 p.m. prior to the service. Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, is in charge of all arrangements. An online guest register is available at iviefuneralhome.com.
