Michael Frank Hoelscher, age 89, of Celina, passed away on March 6, 2026, at his residence.
Born on June 9, 1936, in Celina, Mike was the son of the late Alfred H. and Lucy M. (Franck) Hoelscher. He married Shirley E. Sheets on January 27, 1960, and the couple shared 57 loving years together until her death on August 5, 2017.
Mike is survived by his children: Sheryl (Phil) Borger of Franklin, and Tonita (Bob) Phipps, Bill Hoelscher, Mary Lynn (Kevin) Meyer, and Kurt (Julie Parent) Hoelscher, all of Celina. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Tyrone (Susie) Borger, Jason (Beth) Borger, Travis (Amy) Borger, Clint (Cindy) Springer, Amanda (Patrik) Loveless, Abby (Drew) Miller, Kyle (Courtney) Hoelscher, Maddy (Ryan) Rogel, Cherylynn Topp, Brad (Megan) Meyer, and Heather (Chris Coats) Leist; step-grandchildren: Greg (Stacy) Phipps, Jeff Phipps, Matt Parent, and Jennifer (Rick) Halsen; 38 great-grandchildren; and 32 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers David and Samuel Hoelscher, granddaughters Jessica and Rachael Springer, a great-granddaughter, brothers-in-law Rex (Marilyn) Sheets and Gary Sheets, and his parents-in-law H. Glenn and Evelyn (Rexroth) Sheets.
After attending St. Henry High School, Mike served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was among the first employees at Huffy Bicycles when the plant opened in 1954, where he met Shirley. In 1960 he joined Speicher Brothers Trenchers, rising to plant manager and introducing improvements to machinery design. Later, he and Shirley co-founded H&S Company, Inc. in Celina, which manufactured and repaired commercial trenchers. They acquired Speicher Brothers and Buckeye Trenchers, and in 1990 Mike developed a new trencher design that sustained the company for decades. He took great pride in restoring Speicher Trencher Serial #2 and was working on a steam-powered Buckeye Trencher at the time of his passing.
Mike was a member of the NRA, HOG (Harley Owners Group), Celina Eagles Aerie #1291, and Celina American Legion Post #210. He loved building and flying model airplanes and, with Shirley, enjoyed traveling the country on their Harley-Davidson, including annual trips to Sturgis, South Dakota. Those who knew him will remember his playful spirit and fondness for good-natured shenanigans that brought laughter to those around him.
