Michael E. Kowalewski, Jr. was born on August 6, 1956, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, arriving as a twin with his brother Patrick. He grew up in the Ducktown neighborhood on Mississippi Avenue, attended St. Michael’s School and Atlantic City High School, and remained deeply rooted in the city he loved throughout his life. Mike passed away at home on March 12, 2026, at the age of 69.
He carried a lifelong affection for Atlantic City, often seen riding his bike along the boardwalk, greeting fellow riders with a warm smile and kind words. Summer evenings frequently found him enjoying free concerts on the boardwalk and in nearby towns. A regular at the Ventnor Library, Mike took pleasure in borrowing movies, often remarking that there was no need to pay for what could be borrowed.
Predeceased by his parents, Michael Kowalewski, Sr. and Beverly Heath, and his twin brother Patrick (Packy), Mike is survived by his sister, Pat Cocozza (Russ Boice), his nephew Harvey Cocozza, Jr. (Dawn), his sister-in-law Patricia Kowalewski, his great-nieces Emily, Cora, and Mia Cocozza, and his cousin Joseph Heath.
He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him for his gentle spirit, his love of simple joys, and his quiet connection to the place he called home.
