Marion, IL
Michael David “Mike” Carter, 51, of Marion, passed away on March 6, 2026. Born on January 24, 1975, in Champaign, Illinois, to Jerry Carter and Doris Cler, Mike lived a life centered on the outdoors, good company, and the simple pleasures he cherished most.
On August 1, 2015, he married Alice Russell, the love of his life, and together they built a home filled with adventure, family gatherings, and many hours spent around the grill. Mike was most at ease on his motorcycle, fishing, golfing, or tending to a smoker. His brisket was legendary, and countless warm memories were shared over plates of his barbecue with those he held dear. A dedicated craftsman, he began his electrical apprenticeship with the IBEW in 2000 and later founded his own company, Carter Electric, on June 11, 2014. He took pride in his work and the lasting relationships it created.
Mike is survived by his wife, Alice Carter; his stepdaughter, Jessica (Jasper) Pettit; his mother, Doris Cler-Johnson and husband Greg Johnson; his sister, Jennifer (Tim) Kilman; his beloved dogs Ivy and Willow; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends Jeff and Donna Bocook, along with many others who were fortunate to know him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Carter; his mother- and father-in-law; his friend Jason “Taco” Bruce; and his beloved “3G girls,” Gracie, Georgie, and Gretta.
