Michael Cope

Michael “Mike” Brian Cope, 56, of Franklin, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. The son of the late William Edward Cope and Shirley Faye Tallent Cope, Mike was a lifelong resident of Macon County. A devoted member of Ellijay Missionary Baptist Church, he spent many years in the heating and air industry before joining Macon County, from which he retired. He also gave generously of his time through his service with the Franklin Fire Department and the Cullasaja Fire Department.

Mike found his greatest joy outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with friends at the Hillbilly Hunting Camp. Above all, he was a family man who deeply cherished those he loved and never missed an opportunity to show it.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Melissa Young Cope; daughter, Kristen (Jake) McHan; granddaughter, Marlee McHan; mother, Shirley Cope; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mike’s legacy of love, service, and dedication will live on in everyone whose life he touched.
