Michael Charles “Mike” Horvath, born September 17, 1953, in Ashland, Kentucky, passed away on March 10, 2026, in Vero Beach, Florida, with his family at his bedside. A master plumber and owner of Sunshine Plumbing for more than thirty years, Mike built a reputation for dedication, craftsmanship, and integrity across countless projects throughout Florida. He approached both his work and his relationships with the same generous spirit, never meeting a stranger and always ready to lend a hand.
After retirement, Mike remained active, devoting time to restoring his beloved 1966 Ford Galaxie, cheering for the Cleveland Browns, following NASCAR, and sharing quiet evenings with family. He found joy in simple pleasures, including his favorite meal of baked or mashed potatoes mixed with applesauce, and he passed along his love of sailing and fishing to his children and grandchildren. A man of deep faith, he lived honestly and worked tirelessly to provide for those he loved, offering constant encouragement often sealed with a thumbs-up.
Mike will be remembered by his children for the gentle bedtime words he shared with them—“Goodnight David, Goodnight Chet”—and for the affectionate nickname “Peanut” he gave to one of them. His laughter, steady presence, and unwavering support left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his children: Nick Horvath and his wife Lindsay, and their children Landon, Caleb, Zach, and Ali; Rachel Trexler and her children Rylan, Raven, and Rip; Hannah Horvath and her husband Shane Ross, and their children Anabel and Gavin; and Kris Akins and his wife April, and their children Alex, Eli, Abigail, and Annabella. He is also survived by his sisters, Debra Kay Hornsby and Antoinett Marie Haynes, as well as his former wife and friend, Doreen Horvath.
